Mexico City
Mexico City is vibrant, layered, and endlessly inspiring.
Mexico City hums with creativity and color — a beautiful balance of history and modern life. From tree-lined neighborhoods and tucked-away galleries to unforgettable meals, it’s a city that keeps you coming back for more. Here are a few of my favorite spots to experience its rhythm.
Museums
The museums in Mexico City tell the story of a city that’s forever evolving — ancient roots, bold modernism, and everything in between. Few cities do museums like Mexico City. Art, history, architecture — it’s all here. Each space feels like a conversation between past and present, and somehow, it all fits perfectly.
Museo Nacional de Anthropología
The Museo Nacional de Antropología is one of those places that reminds you just how deep Mexico’s history runs. Set in the heart of Chapultepec Park, its vast halls are filled with stories carved in stone — from the Aztec Sun Stone to treasures of ancient civilizations. It’s a place to wander slowly and take in the scale of it all.
Also set in Chapultepec Park, Museo de Arte Moderno is a calm haven for lovers of modern Mexican art. Its galleries highlight iconic works while inviting quiet reflection on the country’s creative evolution. Museo de Arte Moderno is where tradition meets experimentation. From striking murals to evocative paintings, it’s a place to immerse yourself in Mexico’s rich artistic heritage with a modern perspective. Be sure to walk around the outside to admire the beautiful and inspiring sculpture garden.
Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo
This is a lesser know museum, however if your in the Chapultepec Park, hit this one for something a bit different. Museo Tamayo is a study in contrasts — raw concrete, soft light, and art that challenges and inspires. It’s makes you want to slow down and look a little closer.
Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Coyoacán, the Frida Kahlo Museum — La Casa Azul — is instantly recognizable by its bright cobalt-blue walls. Inside, you’ll find Frida’s personal rooms, artwork, and collections, offering a rare, intimate glimpse into her life. Beyond the museum, Coyoacán’s cobblestone streets, colorful plazas, and relaxed, artistic vibe make the whole visit feel like stepping into a storybook — vibrant, historic, and utterly unforgettable.
Be sure to plan an entire afternoon here where lunch is an experience and the outdoor art market is not to be missed.
Restaurants!!
Mexico City is a dream for anyone who loves food. From bustling taquerías and cozy cafés to inventive fine-dining spots and hidden gems tucked down side streets, every meal feels like an adventure. Here are some of my favorite places to eat, sip, and soak up the city’s incredible flavors.
Taverna
Taverna feels intimate and timeless — candlelit, unhurried, and full of character. The food leans Mediterranean with Mexican soul, and everything from the wine to the playlist feels thoughtfully chosen. It’s the perfect spot to linger long after dinner ends.
Lardo
Lardo is the kind of place you wish were in your own neighborhood — warm, buzzy, and effortlessly stylish. The open kitchen, wood-fired dishes, and Mediterranean flavors make it perfect for a long breakfast or a slow, late lunch with good wine and even better people-watching. Every time I’m in CDMX, I ALWAYS stop here. If you don’t have a reservation, which I recommend, you can usually find a spot at the bar. Come early so you don’t get shut out.
Fonda Fina
Fonda Fina reimagines traditional Mexican cooking with creativity and care. Every dish feels familiar yet new, rooted in local flavors but presented with a modern touch. It’s relaxed but refined — the kind of spot that captures the heart of contemporary Mexican cuisine.
Caracol de Mar
Caracol de Mar is all about coastal calm in the middle of the city. Fresh seafood, bright flavors, and beautiful design make it feel like an escape — somewhere between a beachside afternoon and a modern art gallery. Don’t miss the ceviche. Gorgeous and delicious!!
Contramar
Contramar is a Mexico City classic — lively, sunlit, and always buzzing. Known for its famous tuna tostadas and signature pescado a la talla, it’s the kind of place where lunch stretches into afternoon, and every table feels like a party. Again, get a reservation!!
Club Sorbet
Club Sorbet is a hidden gem with a charming outdoor setting that feels like a little oasis in the city. Its creative, playful menu makes it the kind of place you stumble upon and instantly fall for. When you’ve been out walking all day, this is a great spot to sit and unwind with a glass of wine. Trust me, this is a must find, but it’s a bit hidden so just ask someone when you think you’re close and they will point you in the right diction. Hint: it is around a corner and quite literally hidden. ;)
PRO TIP: For almost all of the hot spots in CDMX, a reservation is a must. Do your homework and make that resy!
Neighborhoods to Explore
Mexico City’s neighborhoods each have their own rhythm and personality. From leafy, artsy streets to colorful, historic corners, every area has something to explore and discover.
Roma Norte
Roma Norte pulses with creativity and charm. Tree-lined streets, hidden cafés, and vibrant art spaces make it perfect for wandering slowly and soaking up the city’s energy.
Roma Sur
Roma Sur has a quieter, leafy elegance. Its streets feel lived-in yet stylish, with local shops and cafés that reward a leisurely stroll.
Escandón
Escandón is authentically local, with markets, cozy eateries, and streets that invite discovery. It’s the kind of neighborhood that feels like your own little secret. My cousin was living here for 3 months and it was the perfect spot in a central location.
Condesa
Condesa is effortlessly chic — parks, shaded avenues, and a relaxed, artsy vibe make it a favorite for both locals and visitors. It’s a bit upscale if that’s your vibe. And even if posh isn’t what you’re looking for, it worth an afternoon stroll.
Coyoacán
Coyoacán feels like stepping back in time. Cobblestone streets, colorful squares, and a slower pace give it a magical, almost storybook quality. The Frida Kahlo Museum is here and there is an awesome outdoor market for picking up gorgeous local art. Plan to spend the down here for sure!
Noteworthy Fun
Casa Estudio Luis Barragán
Casa Estudio Luis Barragán is a masterpiece of light, color, and geometry. The architect’s home and studio showcase his iconic modernist vision — serene, vibrant, and quietly inspiring. Even if architecture isn’t usually your thing, the space has a way of making you pause and see the beauty in simplicity.
Xochimilco Canal Boat Rides
Floating through Xochimilco’s colorful canals is pure joy. Bright trajineras drift past floating gardens, musicians, and vendors selling local treats — a lively, immersive slice of Mexican culture. It’s part sightseeing, part celebration, and entirely unforgettable.
